So, I did some searches for cool BD music I've been hearing about (Oojami, Pentaphobe, Zaina, Turbo Tabla) and everything I look up is listed but not available in the U.S. Does anyone know what the deal is? Is this a licensing issue?
I almost never buy actual CDs any more so this is very frustrating!

Re: what's up with itunes??
Fri, April 20, 2007 - 4:11 AMDear Nahid,
Reading your comment about never buying CDs anymore, I just feel compelled to mention
that there is a huge trend of artists being unable to make a living in recent years
because of the increasing hegemony of downloaded Mp3s and the drastic decline in CD sales in the past
four years.
If you truly love Belly Dance electronica, why don't you spend a little money and help to support
the artists that you mention by buying their full length CDs. You get a much higher quality
audio experience anyway, when you buy a CD instead of downloading an MP3.
Speaking as a professional artist I know that these groups cannot live off of itunes downloads alone.
Someone has to buy their CDs to support them if they are going to be able to continue to create
the high quality music for all of us to enjoy.
I apologize because this is completely gratuitous advice, but I just felt like it should be said.
yours, respectfully, Rick -

Re: what's up with itunes??
Fri, April 20, 2007 - 6:36 AMI don't think Nahid was talking about downloading from P2P networks, but about buying songs from iTunes. iTunes is a commercial site, and the artists who put their work on iTunes DO see money from those sales.
Regardless, I know that Pentaphobe and Turbo Tabla are on iTunes, but for some reason, recently, their albums are no longer available in the US store. Pentaphobe and Turbo Tabla ARE on eMusic, if you have a subscription there. I really like eMusic; it specifically supports smaller and independent record labels. -

Re: what's up with itunes??
Fri, April 20, 2007 - 8:20 AMAsharah's right. I DO spend money supporting the artists (musician here myself). I just prefer to purchase and download directly (Immediate gratification junkie here).
As for Itunes, I've heard there are licensing and pricing issues since they're an international site. They price differently in some countries in the EU due to international licensing, etc. so there are a lot of complaints. I'm guessing the limitations I'm hitting are somehow related.
I'll check out emusic! Thanks! -

Re: what's up with itunes??
Sat, April 21, 2007 - 3:52 AMMy apologies, Nahid,
I've been really oversensitive about the fact that most people don't want to
support musical artistry these days unless it's some mega act who charge
$100 for tix to their concerts.
Please forgive me.

Re: what's up with itunes??
Mon, April 23, 2007 - 2:42 PMI know! I signed up and was quite impressed with it!
As to the $100 tickets, those are the ones I generally avoid. I'd much rather hear groups in smaller venues than in the nosebleed section at an arena. Then again, I'm lucky to be in the Twin Cities, so I can go to some great venues!
